Lionel Laander Lowry IV makes his home on Davis Islands in Hillsborough Bay by downtown Tampa. He enjoys creating with his muse, Christy. I’m inspired by emotion, music, and the beauty of the ordinary. I love to transport people from one place to another with my work. I love how I see the world and enjoy sharing my perspective.
Lowry’s imagery often draws from childhood memories. ‘It’s what has stayed with me.”
“Sometimes a painting can heal a person.’ Lowry believes art that deals with hurt, trauma, grief, or other challenges can help a viewer deal with a problem from a better and “safer” perspective. Outside of themselves. Often different people find different solutions or peace within them.”
The broken man, mini-documentary
Documentarian Troy Bedenbaugh put together this moving 3-minute movie (above) about artist Lionel Lowry IV. (@troybedenbaugh on instagram) Both men share the passion of story-telling through art. One film, one paint.
Lowry likes to create scenes, stories, characters, and moments that ignite the viewer's imagination. He challenges the viewer to give meaning to his paintings, while giving context, form, and structural representations to inspire and challenge.

“I have much more insight about the process of creating art that can heal than is here on my web sight. . It truly works and can be much more than an artistic relief. If specific imagery is created that spells out the situation for the beneficiary they can visualize/process their problem/challenge in a different, objective, third-person manner. It does not have to be the patient creating art for therapy.
An intuitive artist; such as myself, can create a painting that speaks to them in a fashion where suddenly they can see their problem and possible solution from a safe exterior vantage point. Then, from being around the painting on a daily basis; Their mind builds up an immunity to the affliction from that steady drip of the closure triggering healing. Like allergy shots, or inoculation, the patient’s subconscious mind heals by exposing that person repeatedly to the real trauma. But this time, that trauma is abstracted and can be processed in a fashion that doesn’t trigger full-blown ptsd. So it’s my honor painting these sort of healing/therapy paintings for people or perhaps even teaching the process to other artists. It’s not just creating art. It is about incorporating the problem into the work in a non-triggering fashion that the patient understands somewhat subconsciously. Just like dreams, which don’t alway seem to make sense, the paintings can help the mind build immunity and solutions to the problem.” - Lionel Lowry IV
